3-[(tert-Butyldimethylsilyl)oxy]-1-propanal is a natural product that belongs to the group of enolates. It is synthesized from furan and benzyloxymethyl chloride through an acid-catalyzed reaction. The synthesis of 3-[(tert-butyldimethylsilyl)oxy]-1-propanal involves the use of the strategy called chemoselective hydrogenolysis, which uses catalytic hydrogenation to selectively reduce one or more C=C double bonds in a molecule without affecting other functional groups. Catalytic hydrogenation is achieved by adding a catalyst, such as palladium on carbon, to the reaction mixture. This substance has potent antiproliferative effects when tested in vitro on human cancer cells and can be used in treatment for prostate cancer.
