(Z)-2-(2-tert-Butoxycarbonylaminothiazol-4-yl)-2-pentenoic acid is a fluorescence probe that has been shown to bind to proteins in the energy metabolism system. It is used as a model system to study the effector proteins of fatty acid synthesis and immune reactions. (Z)-2-(2-tert-Butoxycarbonylaminothiazol-4-yl)-2-pentenoic acid has also been found to be an inhibitor of toll-like receptor 4, which plays a role in the activation of immune cells. This molecule displays biological properties that are similar to those of fatty acids and can therefore be used as an intramolecular hydrogen bond donor or acceptor.
