3,3-Bis(bromomethyl)-oxetane is a synthetic compound that is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of cationic polymers. It has been shown to be active against CD-1 mice and can be used as a fertility index for therapeutic purposes. 3,3-Bis(bromomethyl)-oxetane activates boron trifluoride etherate (BFEE) by cationic polymerization. This reaction causes the release of BFEE and water, which both contribute to the second order rate constant. The conjugates of 3,3-bis(bromomethyl)-oxetane are functional groups that are responsible for its reactivity in this process.
