2-Bromo-3-(trifluoromethyl)aniline is an experimental drug that has been shown to be effective in the treatment of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE). It may also have therapeutic potential for autoimmune diseases, such as multiple sclerosis. 2-Bromo-3-(trifluoromethyl)aniline inhibits the synthesis of spiroindolines, which are thought to be associated with the development of EAE. This drug has been shown to inhibit oligodendrocyte differentiation and disrupt myelin formation in vitro. 2-Bromo-3-(trifluoromethyl)aniline is a potent inhibitor of myelin basic protein (MBP) synthesis and has been shown to suppress MBP mRNA expression in a dose dependent manner.
