Butyl valerate is a chemical compound that is used as a cross-linking agent in the production of polyvinyl. Butyl valerate has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi, as well as to prevent mold from growing on fruit. It is also used in products such as glycol ethers and fatty acids. The reaction mechanism of butyl valerate is not yet fully understood, but it appears to be catalyzed by calcium stearate or malic acid. This chemical can be synthesized through a number of methods, including the use of particle catalysts or acidic ph conditions.
