It inhibits the activity of dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPP-IV), which causes the degradation of insulin and other incretin hormones. Butyryl chloride can be used to treat bacterial infections by inhibiting the growth of antibiotic-resistant strains, such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Clostridium difficile.
