Descripción

Sec-butyl methyl sulphide is a volatile organic compound with a sulfide odor. It is used as an additive to natural gas, petrol, and other fuels to provide an odorant. The compounds have been reported to have a low odor threshold in the range of 10 ppb. Sec-butyl methyl sulphide has been shown to be effective for the detection of headspace volatiles in fruit juice samples, as well as for screening various fruits for their characteristic volatiles. The sec-butyl methyl sulphide molecule is chiral, which means that it can exist in two forms: (R) and (S). The enantiomers are differentiated by their rotational symmetry around the sulfur atom.
