1,3-Bis-(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)imidazolinium chloride is a reactive, unsymmetrical molecule that reacts with nucleophiles to form a new C-C bond. 1,3-Bis-(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)imidazolinium chloride is used as a cross-coupling agent in reactions with β-unsaturated ketones and aryl chlorides. It can also be used to cleave bonds of azides and halides. The reaction mechanism of 1,3-Bis-(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)imidazolinium chloride starts with the addition of the nucleophile to the imidazoline ring. The chloride then leaves as a leaving group and forms an intermediate tetrahedral species. This intermediate then reacts with pentane to form the product.
