Boc-D-glutamic acid 5-benzyl ester is a peptidomimetic that is synthesized by solid phase synthesis. It has been shown to be stable in the presence of serum and alkylation, which makes it a good candidate for use as an anti-tuberculosis drug. Boc-D-glutamic acid 5-benzyl ester is also taken up by intestinal cells and is resistant to degradation. The benzyl group of this compound may play a role in the uptake of Boc-D-glutamic acid 5-benzyl ester by cells. This compound is not active against Mycobacterium tuberculosis but does have activity against Mycobacterium avium complex.
