It is used in vitro assays and toxicity studies, as well as for the production of laminated coatings. 2-(2-Butoxyethoxy)ethanol can be found in products such as paints and varnishes, inks, industrial cleaners, and textile finishes. This compound has been shown to be toxic to laboratory animals at high doses. The LD50 (lethal dose 50%) for rats is 3 g/kg body weight. 2-(2-Butoxyethoxy)ethanol may produce adverse effects on the central nervous system, liver, heart and kidney at high doses.
