(S)-4-Benzylthiazolidine-2-thione is a chiral organic compound that belongs to the class of thiazolidines. It is prepared by reacting methylene chloride with potassium hydroxide in the presence of carbon disulfide and recrystallizing from water. The optical rotation is +77° (c = 1, CHCl). This reagent can be used as a strong nucleophile in organic synthesis. It has been used for the synthesis of other compounds, such as 2-chloro-3-(2-methylpropyl)thiazolidine-4-carboxylic acid chloride, which is an antihistamine drug.
