7-Bromo-4-chloro-3-nitroquinoline is a quinolone inhibitor of prostaglandin synthesis. It has high selectivity for the inhibition of prostaglandin E2 and low selectivity for the inhibition of other prostaglandins, such as PGE1. This compound binds to the active site of COX enzymes and blocks the conversion of arachidonic acid to prostaglandins. 7-Bromo-4-chloro-3-nitroquinoline is a member of a class of compounds known as imidazoquinolines, which are structurally related to quinolones. The optimization process led to a more potent inhibitor with reduced side effects.
