Boc-O-benzyl-L-trans-4-hydroxyproline is a biomolecule that is used in the research of collagenolysis, a process by which collagen is degraded by hydroxyprolines. The molecule has an optical rotation of +131° and a molecular weight of 589. It can be found in low temperatures, at acidic pH values, and under high concentrations of potassium chloride. Boc-O-benzyl-L-trans-4-hydroxyproline may also be used to stabilize collagen fibers in the transition from single to triple helix. This molecule interacts with specific receptors on the surface of cells, which are activated by changes in temperature or pH levels.
