Z-4,4'-bipiperidine is an organic compound that is used mainly for research purposes. It is a byproduct of the reaction between aminocarbonyl compounds and aldehydes. This process of converting aminocarbonyl compounds to piperidines is called the aminocarbonylation reaction. The convergent synthesis of piperidines can be achieved by reacting an alkyl halide with a ketone under basic conditions.
