It can be found in urine samples, and is used as a biomarker for the evaluation of eosinophil peroxidase activity. 3-Bromo-4-hydroxyphenylacetic acid is metabolized through a number of metabolic pathways, including oxidation by hypobromous acid or catalysis by dehalogenase enzymes. This metabolite may also be involved in the pathogenesis of allergic reactions.
