6-Benzyloxy-2-benzoxazolinone (BBX) is a plant growth inhibitor that inhibits the synthesis of chlorophyll. It is an etiolated plant agent, meaning it causes plants to become pale or white. BBX has a significant inhibitory activity on endoplasmic and membrane-bound enzymes in the endoplasmic reticulum and the mitochondria. It also inhibits the synthesis of 1-naphthylacetic acid and other substances. Retardation of cell division has been observed with BBX, suggesting that this substance may be used to control cell proliferation.
