5-Bromo-2-cyano-3-fluoropyridine is an antiviral agent that inhibits the HIV virus. It is a bicyclic molecule that has been shown to have broad-spectrum activity against a variety of viruses, including influenza, herpes simplex virus, and human cytomegalovirus. 5-Bromo-2-cyano-3-fluoropyridine binds to the ATP binding site on the enzyme cyclin kinase, which prevents the formation of ATP and leads to cell death. This compound also has low nanomolar and micromolar ranges of antiviral activity with affinity in the micromolar range.
