Benzo[b]thiophene-7-carboxaldehyde is a lead molecule that inhibits the formylation of coumarin by CYP2A6. This compound is an excellent inhibitor of CYP2A6, with an IC50 value of 0.05 μM. It also has a selectivity index of 4,000 and inhibits other cytochrome P450 enzymes at much higher concentrations. The inhibition of this enzyme can be used to study nicotine metabolism in vivo.
