1-Bromo-4-ethylbenzene is a metastable compound that can be used to study the effects of temperature on reaction rates. It has a structural formula of C6H5Br, and it is an aromatic hydrocarbon with a dipole moment. The molecule contains an ethyl group and two halogen atoms (chloride). 1-Bromo-4-ethylbenzene can be synthesized in three ways: by reacting ethyl bromide with sodium chloride, by reacting bromine gas with an ethyl alcohol, or by reacting chlorobenzene with hydrogen bromide.
