3-Bromo-2-chloro-5-methylpyridine is a synthetic pyridine nitrogen. It inhibits the activity of the hepatitis C virus NS5B polymerase, and is used to treat chronic hepatitis B and C. 3-Bromo-2-chloro-5-methylpyridine is also capable of inhibiting the polymerase activity of HIV and other retroviruses. This compound has been shown to be effective against environmental pollutants such as dioxins, polychlorinated biphenyls, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. 3-Bromo-2-chloro-5-methylpyridine can be produced in an environmentally friendly process that does not require harsh chemicals or high temperatures. The synthesis of this compound can be scaled up to produce large quantities at a time without affecting its quality.
