Descripción

2-Bromo-5,6-dichloro-1H-benzimidazole (2BDCI) is a heterocyclic compound that inhibits the serine protease of herpes simplex virus and prevents the production of progeny virus. It is also shown to be an inhibitor of mitochondrial serine proteases, which are involved in apoptotic cell death. 2BDCI is effective against uninfected cells and has been shown to inhibit the replication of a variety of viruses, including herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1), herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2), influenza A virus, Sindbis virus, and vesicular stomatitis virus. The mechanism of action for 2BDCI is not fully understood but may involve inhibition of protein synthesis or interference with glycosidic bond formation.
