Basic blue 20 is a metal hydroxide that has been used as a fluorescent probe for measuring photosynthetic activity. It is also used in the detection of metals and has shown to have thermal expansion properties. It binds to human immunoglobulin G (IgG) and can be used in fluorescence spectrometry to measure IgG concentration in human serum or other biological samples. Basic blue 20 has high resistance to both organic solvents and dilute acids, making it a useful model system for electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.
