(-)-Cis-2-benzamidocyclohexanecarboxylic acid is a chiral compound that has been shown to be an effective catalyst for the asymmetric synthesis of nitroalkanes and related compounds. It is a liquid at room temperature and can be used in ionic liquids. The catalytic activity of (-)-cis-2-benzamidocyclohexanecarboxylic acid is increased when it is used with organocatalysts or ammonium ions. This compound has been shown to be enantioselective, giving higher yields of the desired stereoisomer over the undesired one. The diastereoselectivity of this catalyst can also be controlled by substituents on the amide group.
