1,3-Bis(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)imidazolinium chloride is a compound that belongs to the group of imidazolium salts. It is used as an allylation reagent for triethyl orthoformate and can be used for the synthesis of substituted aryl chlorides. This compound also reacts with a variety of halides, such as chloride and bromide ions, to form stable salts. The reactivity of 1,3-Bis(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)imidazolinium chloride with oxygen nucleophiles is much higher than its reactivity with chlorine nucleophiles. This is due to the electron withdrawing effects of the trisubstituted aromatic ring on the nitrogen atom in 1,3-bis(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)imidazolinium chloride.
