(2-Bromophenyl)diphenylphosphine is also an ancillary ligand in molecular orbitals, which aids in stabilizing the molecular orbital. The nature of this ligand has been studied using x-ray diffraction methods. It has been found that the bond lengths and angles are dependent on the substituents on its phenyl rings, with shorter bonds and larger angles for more substituted derivatives. This ligand can also participate in nucleophilic attack reactions with halides to form a phosphonium ion intermediate.
