cis-1,2-Bis(phenylsulfonyl)ethylene is a triflate that can be used to synthesize vinylene. It undergoes a chemical transformation to form the vinyl ether, which is then reacted with the pyrrole system to form the fulvene. Fulvene reacts with silicon tetrachloride and triketone to form an 8-membered ring structure. This process can be optimized by using cyclobutanone as a reactant instead of anthracene. The final product is an annealed coordination complex.
