5-Bromobenzo[b]thiophene is an organic molecule that acts as a thrombin inhibitor. It binds to the active site of thrombin, which prevents the conversion of prothrombin to thrombin. 5-Bromobenzo[b]thiophene is also used in photochemistry and fluorescence spectroscopy. In addition, it has been shown to be able to cross-couple with various functional groups, such as chlorides, phosphines, and halides. The mechanistic properties of 5-Bromobenzo[b]thiophene have been studied extensively using a variety of techniques.
