Benzo[b]fluoranthene is a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon that is genotoxic. It has been shown to induce autophagy and promote the degradation of cellular components by lysosomes. This compound also binds to DNA, forming covalent adducts with guanine residues in DNA. The binding of benzo[b]fluoranthene to DNA can inhibit transcription and replication, leading to cell death. Benzo[b]fluoranthene has tumorigenic properties, which may be due to its ability to bind with dna and inhibit transcription and replication. Benzo[b]fluoranthene has been shown to cause liver tumors in CD-1 mice, although it is unclear if this effect would occur in humans.
