Bis(4-fluoro-3-nitrophenyl) sulfone is a compound that inhibits the activity of effector proteins, which are proteins that perform various functions in the immune system. It has been shown to inhibit IL-2 production and other cytokines in vitro. Bis(4-fluoro-3-nitrophenyl) sulfone has shown an inhibitory effect on influenza virus replication in vitro. This drug may have a role as an adjuvant, enhancing the effectiveness of influenza vaccines. The mechanism of action is believed to be due to its ability to denature and thus neutralize influenza virus particles by binding to their surface. Bis(4-fluoro-3-nitrophenyl) sulfone can also form conjugates with a variety of different molecules such as polysaccharides and peptides, which can increase its effectiveness as an immunomodulator.
