Descripción:
The liquid phase alkylation of biphenyl with 4-tert-butylphenol (4TBP) was carried out in a programmed reactor at 60°C for 1.5 h. The reaction was monitored by gas chromatography, and the yields were determined by recording the peak area of the product on a gas chromatogram. The reaction time was optimized to give the desired product yield. The total yield obtained is 85%. This method can be used to synthesize other alkyl substituted biphenyls using different alkylating agents.
