Hyacinthacine A2 is a potent cytotoxic agent that inhibits the growth of cervical cancer cells. It has been shown to be an efficient method for the synthesis of carbon chains, which is important due to their low abundance in nature. Hyacinthacine A2 is bifunctional and can form either a chloride or an alkene product, depending on the reaction conditions employed. The stereoselective synthesis of cocrystal structures with metathesis reactions are also possible with this compound.
