1-Bromo-2-fluorobenzene is a chemical substance that is used in the industrial production of hydrogen fluoride. It is also used in health care products, such as antiseptics and disinfectants. The emission of 1-bromo-2-fluorobenzene may be harmful to human health, causing eye and skin irritation. 1-Bromo-2-fluorobenzene reacts with Clostridium e. cloacae, producing hydrogen fluoride and chloride ions. The reaction mechanism for this process is unclear, but it has been hypothesized that the photoelectron of 1-bromo-2-fluorobenzene excites the chlorine atom to react with hydrogen atoms from water molecules to produce hydrogen chloride and hydrochloric acid.
