It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of autoimmune disorders and organ transplant rejection. 3-Bromopyruvic acid hydrate is a macrocyclic compound, which is synthesized from three bromopyruvic acid molecules by joining them through their carboxyl groups. This compound binds to the calcineurin enzyme as a competitive inhibitor.
