Bis(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl) (methoxycarbonylmethyl)phosphonate is a chiral and stereoselective synthetic reagent that has been used in the preparation of alcohols and allenes. It can be prepared by trimethyl phosphonoacetate and an allene or by adding trimethyl to a solution of samuelsson. Preparative methods include gel chromatography or solvents such as benzene or dichloromethane. The solvent is then evaporated off and the bis(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl) (methoxycarbonylmethyl)phosphonate is purified by recrystallization from methanol. Bis(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl) (methoxycarbonylmethyl)phosphonate has been used to synthesize chiral alcohols with high purity (>98%) and enantiomeric excess
