- Bis(2-fluoroethyl) sulfate
Bis(2-fluoroethyl) Sulfate is a regulatory chemical that is used in the synchrotron radiation facility at the Advanced Photon Source. It has been shown to bind to DNA and RNA, which affects transcription and translation. Bis(2-fluoroethyl) Sulfate also has an effect on chronic myelogenous leukemia cells and can be used as a vector for gene therapy. Fluorescence measurements of bis(2-fluoroethyl) sulfate show that this compound fluoresces with a wavelength of 488 nm. The spectral position is due to the fluorescence emission from sulfur atoms within the molecule. This compound also reacts with oxygen, nitrogen, or carbon dioxide in the air, which may lead to its degradation into bis(2-fluoropropyl) sulfate, bis(2-chloroethyl) sulfate, or other compounds.
