Bis(trifluoromethyl)diazene is a volatile compound with the chemical formula C6H3F3N. It has a mass of 136 g/mol and an optical rotation of -25° (c=1, in ethanol). The compound is highly reactive and can be used as a precursor for other compounds. Bis(trifluoromethyl)diazene has been shown to be stable in the presence of air and water, but may react violently with oxidizing agents such as potassium permanganate, nitric acid, or perchloric acid. The substance boils at 37°C and decomposes above 150°C. Bis(trifluoromethyl)diazene can be prepared by substituting fluorine atoms for chlorine atoms in bis(trichloromethyl)diazene.
