Benzenediazonium, tetrafluoroborate is a coupling agent that was first synthesized in 1881 by the German chemist Karl Heumann. It is an intramolecular hydrogen-coupling agent, which means that it reacts with itself to form a cyclic intermediate. This intermediate then reacts with a nucleophile to form the product. The reaction mechanism for benzenediazonium, tetrafluoroborate involves chloride ion as the nucleophile and human serum albumin as the model system. The diazonium salt is generated from two molecules of benzenediazonium, tetrafluoroborate and chloride ion. In order for the reaction to take place, radiation must be present. The reaction solution is always monosodium salt ester hydrochloride for this type of reaction.
