Bis(trifluoromethylsulphonyl)methane is a reactive, proton-containing compound. It is used as a reagent in organic synthesis and has been shown to react with potassium hydride and silicon anions to form the corresponding trifluoromethylsulfonyl potassium or tetrafluoroborate salt. Bis(trifluoromethylsulphonyl)methane can be synthesized from pentane, benzaldehyde and chlorine by treatment with hydrogen fluoride. This chemical is also found in flavonoids, including luteolin, apigenin, and hesperetin. The structure of bis(trifluoromethylsulphonyl)methane was determined by x-ray diffraction analysis. Magnetic resonance spectroscopy studies show that it has one fluorine atom in its molecule. Bis(trifluoromethylsulphonyl)m
