3,4-Bis(trifluoromethyl)benzoic acid is a synthetic organic compound that belongs to the class of electronic effects. It is a strong electron-donating agent and therefore has been used as a reagent in organic synthesis. 3,4-Bis(trifluoromethyl)benzoic acid can be synthesized by reacting benzoic acid with trifluoroacetic anhydride in the presence of pyridine. This chemical can also be used for lithiation, which is the process of adding lithium to a substrate. The reactivity of 3,4-Bis(trifluoromethyl)benzoic acid also makes it useful for connecting metalations.
