N,O-Bis(trifluoroacetyl)hydroxylamine is an electrophilic reagent that is used as a catalyst in organic reactions. It functions by trapping the nucleophile from the other reactant and adding it to the carbon atom of the electrophile. This reaction occurs when there is an electron-withdrawing group on the electrophile, such as trifluoroacetyl. N,O-Bis(trifluoroacetyl)hydroxylamine can be recrystallized from benzene or water. The compound has been used in preparative methods for preparing aldehydes, hydroxamic acids, and hydroxylamines. Elemental analysis shows that this compound has a transition metal in its structure with a high oxidation state.
