2-Bromo-3,3,4,4,4-Pentafluoro-1-Butene is a gas that is used as a detector for gas chromatography. It has been shown to be an efficient and specific detector for halons with ionisation energies in the range of 5.0-8.0 electron volts. 2-Bromo-3,3,4,4,4-Pentafluoro-1-Butene can be detected by electron capture or chemical ionization techniques and its response is linear over a range of concentrations. This gas also shows no significant background in the presence of other gases such as methane or ethane and its response time is about 1 second.
