TFE is an antimicrobial agent that can be used as a coating on medical devices and implants to prevent bacterial growth. Trans-1,2-Bis(perfluoro-n-butyl)Ethylene has also been shown to have DNA template activity, which can be useful for polymerase chain reaction or radiation therapy.
