Boron fluorides are a group of compounds that contain the boron-fluoride anion, BF. These compounds can be synthesized by reacting either boric acid or hydrofluoric acid with various metal oxides. Boron fluorides are used in analytical chemistry as pH indicators and have been shown to have good detection sensitivity. They are also used in vitro methods to study the binding of boron to biological systems, such as women's bones and body mass index. Boron fluorides are also used as models for hydrogen fluoride complexes.
