2-(1-Propen-2-yl)thiophene is a pharmaceutical drug that is used in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. It is a dihydrofuran that can be synthesized by dehydrogenation of 1-propen-2-ylbenzene using homogeneous catalysts such as palladium, platinum, and nickel. 2-(1-Propen-2-yl)thiophene has been shown to be an effective treatment for high cholesterol and hypertension when it is administered at doses of 200 mg/kg/day for 8 weeks. 2-(1-Propen-2-yl)thiophene has also been shown to have antihypertensive effects that are comparable to those of hydrochlorothiazide. The mechanism behind these effects may involve the inhibition of angiotensin II type I receptor at the vascular level.
