It is used in alkene polymerization and has shown to be a chain transfer agent. The catalytic activity of 1-Bromo-4-(1-phenyl-1-pyrrolidinomethyl)benzene is dependent on the type of alkene and the reaction conditions. For example, 1,3 butadiene undergoes homopolymerization under acidic conditions with a low molar ratio of 1:2 between the monomer and catalyst, whereas styrene does not show any polymerization at all under these conditions.
