• Descripción: Cyclopropyl methyl ketone (CPMK) is a cyclic ketone that is used as a solvent and chemical intermediate. CPMK has been shown to cause metabolic disorders in rats, including liver necrosis and fatty changes in the liver. It is unclear how this occurs, but it may be due to the metal-coordinating nitrogen atoms in CPMK. The coordination geometry of these atoms is necessary for their function as ligands for transition metals such as iron and copper, which are important contributors to oxidative stress. CPMK also has anhydrous sodium as a hydroxide counter ion, which may contribute to its toxicity by causing dehydration. CPMK has been shown to have plant physiology effects on plants because of its ability to bind to hydroxyl groups on fatty acids. This binding disrupts the cellular membrane and leads to leakage of cellular contents.
