4-Chloro-3-nitrobenzene sulfonic acid is a synthetic chemical that has been used as an intermediate in the synthesis of other compounds and pharmaceuticals. This compound has been shown to be effective in the treatment of meningococcal disease, which may be due to its ability to react with chloride ions and form chlorine gas. 4-Chloro-3-nitrobenzene sulfonic acid also reacts with thionyl chloride to form chlorosulfonic acid, which is then reacted with ammonia to form chloramine. The amination reaction of this product can produce aniline derivatives that are used in the manufacture of dyes, plastics, and agricultural chemicals.
