• Descripción: Epsilon-Caprolactone is a pharmaceutical drug that has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria. Epsilon-Caprolactone is an organic molecule with a hydroxyl group and a fatty acid side chain. It binds to copper ions, forming copper complexes which are cytotoxic and inhibit bacterial growth. Epsilon-Caprolactone has been shown to be effective against E. coli, Salmonella typhimurium, and Listeria monocytogenes in cell culture studies. The mechanism of action of this compound may involve inhibition of fatty acid synthesis at the level of the acyl carrier protein (ACP). Epsilon-Caprolactone is also known as 2-Oxohexanoic acid, 3-hydroxypropanoic acid, or 3-oxohexanoic acid.
