It has been used in the synthesis of other compounds, such as 4-chloro-4'-methylbutyrophenone and 4-chloro-4'-nitrosobutyrophenone. The compound has been shown to have high affinity for dopamine receptors in rat striatal membranes and can be used to measure receptor activity. The reaction yield is dependent on both stereoselectivity and solubility.
