Descripción:4-Cholesten-3-one is a steroid that is structurally similar to cholesterol. It has been used as a model system to study the biosynthesis of cholesterol and plant sterols. 4-Cholesten-3-one can be synthesized by the oxidation of cholestenone by cytochrome P450 enzymes in rat liver microsomes. The reaction mechanism of this process involves a dinucleotide phosphate intermediate. This compound has also been shown to inhibit cancer cell viability and human fecal sterols, suggesting that it may have potential as an anti-cancer drug or for the treatment of cholesterol disorders.
